Not all information relating to a solution can be shown in these products. We can’t use menu commands as needed to work with the data. We can’t customize software with a master access. So we decided to develop a new analysis tool which we can use in our daily work. The result is CrossCheck.

CrossCheck uses a “logic” behind the import, because not all information is included in the DDR-Report. The “logic” fills-in missing and wrong information. This “logic” helps to find unrelated fields on layout; sees all variables and object names as separate information; and can do much more. More information…

The concept of Troi Scout FM might be at first a bit difficult to grasp. It is different from FileMaker plug-ins, in that is starts from outside FileMaker! You start by selecting some text, for example a name in a Safari web page and let Troi Scout find this text in your database with only a keyboard shortcut.

We provide the full source code so you can integrate its functionality to your own solution.
It’s easy to install extensions manually if you are a seasoned FileMaker developer. However it is especially difficult if you need to describe how to install an extension over the phone to someone with less experience.

Deployment Methods

We needed a method to make sure that the users of our products have the latest version of the extensions installed.

FileMaker databases can be deployed three ways: as a single user, using peer to peer sharing, and using FileMaker Server. FMEI can help with all three method of deployment. Single user and peer to peer sharing offer no method to install extensions. FileMaker Server offers this ability, but it is generally not used my most server administrators. FM Extensions Installer works with all three deployments methods.

Setup and Integration

Set up is simple. You import the extension and provide information about the extension such as its name, platform, and such. That’s it. Integrating FM Extensions Installer to your solution is not difficult for developers familiar with moving tables, custom functions, scripts, and layouts from one database to another. We are available to provide this service as well.

How does it work for the end user?

First we find the extensions for the platform being used that need to be updated. If there are extensions installed with the same names, we disable them. Then we copy the new extensions to the FileMaker Extensions folder. Finally, we ask the user to quit FileMaker and relaunch the database.

Easy – Once FM Extensions Installer is implemented in your solution, you will be able to update your extensions in minutes.

Consistent – No matter if you are deploying your database via single user, peer to peer, or FileMaker Server, FM Extensions Installer works the same way.

Multi Platform – FM Extensions Installer works with Mac on PowerPC, Mac on Intel, Windows XP, and Windows Vista.

What is BaseElements?

BaseElements is a tool to assist FileMaker Pro developers, and make development easier. It imports the Database Design Report from FMPA to give you a complete cross-reference of every element in your solution. From fields to script steps, layouts to custom functions. Everything is included, everything is cross-referenced.

It’s a database for your database.

Have you ever wanted to see list of all of the layouts in your entire solution? Want to find all of the scripts that do import script steps and print them out? Want to find every button on a layout that’s calling a particular script, and list all of the layouts? Want to see every tooltip calculation across all your files? Want to know every place a Global Variable is used in your solution?

These are just a few examples of the sorts of things possible in BaseElements. Everything in your entire solution is imported, everything is cross referenced, and it’s all open and accessible for you to search, list, sort, display and relate to every other object. If you have a question about your solution you need answered, BaseElements can answer it.

Know Your Solution.

If you’ve ever taken over someone else’s solution, and not known where to start, or worked on a system that is too big to keep in your head all at once, BaseElements is the answer. It knows everything about your solution without you having to. You can look at a field, and know every place it exists in every file in your solution.

Preempt the bug reports.

BaseElements lists all of the items in your system that have errors or that are unreferenced. So you can know – in advance – when you introduce that next new version, that it isn’t full of bugs, and that it’s not overloaded with wasted space.

Plus with version 1.0.5, there is now the option to find potential issues in your solution. The addition of a “Warnings” tab means you can find Relationships using mismatched field types, ValueLists using un-indexed fields, errors in disabled script steps and more.

The complete cross reference.

If you develop in FileMaker you know how easy it is to rename scripts, fields or layouts. Things just keep on working. But what if you want to change the calculation, or modify the way a value list works? How do you know what that change will affect in other files or in the way other scripts or fields work? BaseElements tells you everything need to know in advance.

So what do you get?

It’s a standard set of FileMaker Pro databases, that imports the Database Design Report. Nothing is locked down, you have everything except development access to the files. So you can do as many searches and put up as many new windows as you want. Plus the xslt code to import the data is included, and accessible, and it’s free for your own personal use as part of your licence to BaseElements.

It’s available as both standard .fp7 files for you to open in any copy of FileMaker Pro or Advanced or as a run-time so you can keep BE separate from your solution.

In short, there is nothing to stop you getting the most out of your own solutions.

Why BaseElements?

If it wasn’t for the fact that it’s the most accurate, feature packed and simple to use system around, we’d have to say not much. Oh, except for the fact that it’s super fast at importing your solution. And because it doesn’t dictate how you should use the system, it’s designed to give maximum productivity to it’s target audience : FileMaker Pro Developers.

FmPro Script Diff compares, edits, searches and stores FileMaker ScriptMaker scripts – outside the FileMaker database. Changed scripts are compared on a line-by-line basis and displayed with color coded tags to the left of each modified line. Interline changes are also highlighted to indicate Changed, Added or Deleted text. Each script’s XML source can be manually edited or updated via the Search & Replace feature, and pasted back into FileMaker Pro.

A common requirement for regulatory compliance and industry certifications (including: Sarbanes-Oxley [aka: Sox, Sarbox], FDA 21 CFR Part 11, ISO 9000) is to maintain a verifiable audit trail for modifications made to IT systems. The unique line-by-line script comparison feature implemented by FmPro Script Diff enables companies to quickly document ScriptMaker changes between any two versions of a FileMaker database solution. Pressing the TAB key within the Diff screen enables an auditor to instantly advance through each of the changed script lines, potentially saving hours of work looking for these changes manually.

Features:

Line by line script comparisons displayed with colorized result tags and interline highlighting.

Displays graphical control flow view showing script structure at a glance.

Search and replace of text strings, variables, fieldnames, and table occurrences.

Counts and displays highlighted search terms.

Instantly copies stylized script text into other applications.

Jumps to highlighted errors or found search terms with the TAB key.

Exports scripts into a convenient packaged file for sharing among developers or archiving.

Facilitates database auditing and change management.

Supports the automatic generation of script definition XML via external tools.

Stores and exports scripts within open source SQLite3 database files.

FileMaker Pro has no built-in functionality to easily find and select an occurrence in its relationship graph, but it does react to your typing. Unfortunately, most of us are not able to type fast enough to make this a useful method to select an occurrence, especially when working with an FRG with a lot of occurrences.

Occurrence Selector is a menu bar item that uses GUI scripting to do the typing for you.

When in the FRG, the “Select Occurrence” menu item will become active, and when you select it, it offers a small input field, where you type ( or paste ) the occurrence you want to select. Press enter or click the button, and the first occurrence that matches your text will be selected. Subsequent “enters” will select the next occurrence. Close the text input window when you no longer need it.

Occurrence Selector is freeware, created by Peter Wagemans, who also developed Clip Manager.

FMChecker will tell you details about your FileMaker Pro files you never knew before. Even things you could find by digging deep into some dialogs are now presented in a clearly arranged overview – and in no time at all.

Do you know what all the FileMaker Pro files on your hard disk are all about? Would you open or even convert them just to find out – and by that changing the Last Modified Date?

Simply drag your files onto the application and within seconds you will learn:

Do all referenced files really exist in the current environment?

For what systems have Print Setups been defined?

What are the Import/Export/Sort Orders, and Find Requests?

What is the Content of a Global Field (text, number, and date)?

How many times has this file been not properly closed?

What elements a Formula uses and click on any element for further details.

New: Script Steps with links to variables, scripts, etc. and vice versa

Navigate between all elements by clicking as you are used to in a browser.

How many times has this file been Recovered?

When was a file Originally Created and on what System and FileMaker version?

On what System and FileMaker version has a file been used and when last?

Is this file currently In Use and how many Guests are Logged On?

Does it open in Kiosk Mode and have edit capabilities been removed?

What Fonts have been used?

What are the exact Sizes of Data Records, Fields, Layouts, and Scripts?

You may apply a Filter to listings of fields, layouts, scripts, and others

The number of Files read simultaneously is only limited by available memory

And many more details you would have to dig for a long way into FileMaker dialogs, without “touching” (opening and modifying) the file, and in less time…

You may check your files wherever they are – no copying or moving around necessary. It does not matter whether they are currently closed or open by FileMaker Pro or FileMaker Server (Server on Windows 2000 is currently an open issue). As long as you can see them in Windows Explorer or Finder you can check them, even on a network volume.

No need for additional software. No need for FileMaker Developer, plug-in, or database report. FMChecker is a C++ stand-alone application and runs on Mac OS 9, Mac OS X, Windows 98, 2000, NT, and XP.
